Acanthamoeba infection

Symptoms: 
  • Eye pain
  • Excessive tearing
  • Blurred vision
  • Sensation of something in the eye
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Eye redness
Tests to diagnose: 
  • The diagnosis is done based on the symptoms observed
  • Growth of the Acanthamoeba by scraping the infected region of the eye
  • Observing the amoeba by a process called confocal microscopy
Treatment: 

One or more medications will be prescribed by the doctor based on the severity of the infection. The treatment differs from patient to patient and is also dependent on the understanding of the eye care provider.
