Symptoms:
- May trigger the occurence of paralysis
- In pregnant women, it may cause subsequent birth defects
- Fever, rash, joint pain and red eyes
- Conjunctivitis
Tests to diagnose:
Laboratory tests on:
- Blood
- Urine
- Semen
- Saliva
Treatment:
The main focus is to relieve the symptoms as there is no definite treatment known. This includes:
- Rest
- Rehydration
- Acetaminophen for fever and pain
- Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should be avoided as far as possible
