Wax Blockage (Ear Blockage)


Symptoms of an earwax impaction include:

  • Decreased hearing

Looking into the ear with an otoscope, a special instrument that lights and magnifies your inner ear is the tests for diagnoses.


Treatment includes:

  • Drops to soften the ear wax and help it to fall out on its own
  • Wax-removal medication, such as carbamide peroxide (Debrox, Murine Earwax Removal Drops) are used
  • Repeating the irrigation attempts
  • Suctioning the ear canal
  • Using a small device called a curette
