Hepatitis – B


The symptoms include:

  • Flu-like symptoms, such as tiredness, general aches and pains, headaches and a high temperature of 38ºC (100.4ºF) or above 
  • Loss of appetite and weight loss
  • Diarrhea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Dark urine
  • Yellowing of your skin and the whites of your eyes (jaundice)
Tests to diagnose: 

There are three standard blood tests for HBV:

  • HBsAg (looks for hepatitis B surface antigens)
  • Anti-HBs (looks for antibody to the hepatitis B surface antigen)
  • Anti-HBc (antibody to hepatitis B core antigen)

 Treatments include:

  • Antiviral medications: lamivudine and adefovir dipivoxi.
  • Liver transplant
  • Interferon alfa-2b (Intron A)
  • Ribavirin
