Amoebic Dysentery


Loose /watery stools or constipation, bloody stools, constant feeling of moving  bowels, nausea, weight loss, stomach pain, fever and pain in the right, upper side (if you have the parasite in your liver) are amoebic dysentery symptoms.

Tests to diagnose: 

Blood test, stool test, ultrasound and computerised tomography scan are the tests to diagnose amoebic dysentery.


Several antibiotics are available to treat amoebic dysentery or liver infection. Amoebic dysentery is treated with metronidazole (eg Flagyl tablets) or Tinadazole (Fasigyn), drinking plenty of fluids and taking oral rehydration solutions (ORS) helps treating amoebic dysentery.
