The symptoms include:
- Dry, brittle hair or hair loss in patches
- Severe itching
- Swelling of the skin
- Patchy hair loss
- Red-ringed patch of small blisters or scaly skin
- Blisters and pus-filled sores may form around the rings
Your doctor might be able to diagnose ringworm simply by looking at it. If the diagnosis isn't clear-cut, he or she may want to take some skin scrapings from the affected area so they can be examined under a microscope.
Antifungal medication is used to treat ringworm.The medications most commonly prescribed include griseofulvin (Grifulvin V, Gris-Peg) Itraconazole and terbinafine (Lamisil).
