Osteoporosis

Symptoms: 

Weakened bones that are no longer able to support body weight can break even under slight pressure, chronic back pain, hip fracture, wrist fracture and fracture of spinal cord are some of the symptoms.

Tests to diagnose: 

Bone density scan (DEXA scan) can help diagnose osteoporosis.

Treatment: 

Many drugs are prescribed for the treatment of osteoporosis. Biophosphonates are the main class of drugs which include alendronic acid or alendronate (Fosamax), ibandronate (Bonviva), risedronate (Actonel) and zoledronic acid (Aclasta).Hormone related therapy are also preferred for treatment.
