Osteoarthritis

Symptoms: 

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a disease of the entire joint involving the cartilage, joint lining, ligaments, and underlying bone. The breakdown of these tissues eventually leads to pain and joint stiffness. The symptoms include pain in the joints, tenderness, stiffness, loss of flexibility and extra bits of bone, which feel like hard lumps, may form around the affected joint.

 

Tests to diagnose: 

The tests done for diagnoses are 

  • X-rays
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
  • Blood tests
  • Joint fluid analysis
Treatment: 

Exercise, weight control, rest and relief from stress on joints, surgery (Joint Replacement), pain, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), massage, acupuncture and drugs can be used to treat osteoarthritis.
