Kawasaki disease

Symptoms: 

It is a condition which basically causes the inflammation in the walls of certain blood vessels in the body. This condition may also affect the skin,lymph nodes and the mucous membranes. It is usually diagnosed in children five years or under.

  • Pain in the abdomen
  • Pain in joints 
  • Diarrhoea 
  • Vomiting
  • High fever
  • Red rashes on the skin surface 
  • Peeling of skin 
  • Enlarged lymph nodes
  • Red eye (conjunctivitis)
  • Swollen feet 
  • Changes around the lips, tongue, or mouth

 

Tests to diagnose: 
  • Echocardiograph
  • Blood tests
  • Chest X-ray 
  • Electrocardiogram
Treatment: 
  • Infusion of antibodies
  • Addition of prednisolone was found to be helpful (It is yet to be proved among certain populations)
  • Intravenous (IV) doses of gamma globulin
