Diphtheria

Symptoms: 

The symptoms include

  • Weakness
  • Difficulty breathing or rapid breathing
  • Sore throat
  • Fever
  • Swollen glands in the neck
Tests to diagnose: 

Doctors may suspect diphtheria in a sick child who has a sore throat with a gray membrane covering the tonsils and throat and swabs of the throat (or wound) for laboratory testing.

Treatment: 

Diphtheria antitoxin and antibiotics are used to treat diphtheria.
